As Winter is drawing near, it is time to start a fresh routine to combat the Winter blues. Our skin is a reflection of how well we treat our bodies both inside and on the outside. As the temperature lowers and humidity drops, our skin requires slight adjustments to our daily routine. Here are some handy tips on how to keep up with these environmental changes.
1) HYDRATION
Before you order that morning coffee, start the day with a warm cup of water with a dash of freshly squeezed lemon. This will do wonders in detoxification and removing toxins from your body. Think how much your liver and kidneys will love you. Watch your caffeine intake as it is a natural diuretic, you may lose more body fluid than you realize. A lot of my patients develop Urinary Tract Infections in Winter. I do believe there is a link between bladder infections and the lack of fluid hydration, hence the body is not able to flush out all the toxins and bacteria.
2) MOISTURE
Our skin requires more moisture when Winter approaches. It is not unusual to find that your regular moisturizer is not doing the job. You may want to consider switching to a more intense hydrator. There are three options available for you at Total Bliss:
OCosmetics Comfort Cream
Osmosis MD Quench Intense hydrator
Medik8 Hydr8
Those who suffer from eczema, especially in Winter, will benefit from taking Fish Oil, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, Evening Primrose Oil and Probiotics internally. INSKIN COSMEDICS has a new range of internal supplements available on order.
3) SUN PROTECTION
Even though we are in Winter, the UVB is not as intense so you won't burn. However, the UVA still ages you. Car tinted windows only offer protection against UVB. So please don't forget to apply sun block to reduce the damage from UVA. Don't forget to apply on the back of your hands and neck area or wear a scarf when driving.
OCosmedics Triple Defence Mineral Pro
Osmosis MD Shade
Medik8 Hydr8 360
4) REPAIR & RENEW
When you sleep, your skin undergoes restoration, repair and renewal. Epithelial Growth Factors help to accelerate the healing process and promote healthy collagen synthesis. Vitamin A (Retinol or Retinaldehyde) has loads of benefit with skin renewal, depigmentation and repairing the damaged cells. Vitamin C aids in boosting collagen synthesis. Telomerase inhibitor prevents premature shortening of the Telomeres found in our Skin DNA, of which, is the known cause for ageing skin.
OCosmedics Stem Cell Booster OCosmedics Potent Retinol (Vitamin A)
Osmosis Stem Factor, Catalyst AC-11 (Vitamin C)
Osmosis Renew (0.12%) Calm (0.06%) Relieve (0.025%) - Vitamin A (Retinaldehyde)
Medik8 C Tetra or CE Tetra - Vitamin C
One Truth (Tam 818) - Telomerase inhibitor
5) MAINTENANCE
There are usually Winter Specials on IPL photo rejuvenation and it is also the best time to have radiofrequency (skin firming) and Dermapod with serums for facial rejuvenation and maintenance.
Remember, you have to work it to earn it. Home care is 70% on improvement and we are here to help you with the rest of the skin equation.
